According to
the National Rosacea Society, 14 million
Americans have rosacea and do not even
know it. Rosacea is a skin disorder that
affects the facial area. Nicknamed the
"Curse of the Celts," rosacea affects
light skinned people. Rosacea begins as
a rash across the cheeks, nose,
forehead, and chin. Typically, rosacea
falls into one of four broad types.
People can have more than one type of
rosacea. Flare-ups are the reddening and
flushing of the face and can lead to
more severe instances where these flare-ups
become permanent. Inflammatory rosacea
has the typical redness but with
accompanying pimples and pink bumps on
the face. Blood vessels also may be
prominently showing through the skin.
The last type of rosacea that affects
men causes rhynophyma which is
characterized by an enlarged, bulbous,
swollen nose.
