Palermo wins PBR’s U.S. Air Force Invitational

93.25-point ride in Built Ford Tough Championship Round clinches victory

PUEBLO, Colo. (May 21, 2011) – On the last ride of the night in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round, Robson Palermo earned a thunderous roar the standing-room-only crowd of 5,304 when he rode RMEF Gunpowder & Lead (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) for 93.25 points to win the U.S. Air Force Invitational at the Colorado State Fair Events Center on Saturday.

The win is Palermo’s fourth of the season, which is more than any other rider in 2011, and brings his career win total to eight. The championship round score is the highest of the 2011 BFTS season and also the best of Palermo’s career.

Palermo had 358.5 points and took home $47,550 for the win. He moved up from fifth to third in the Built Ford Tough Series standings. It was the 10th Top 10 finish and sixth Top 5 finish for Palermo, who has missed three events this season, and brings his season earnings to more than $253,000.

Guilherme Marchi finished second with 265.75 points, and Douglas Duncan was third with 265.25. Marchi entered the final round in the lead, but was bucked off of Jeffrey Scott’s Titanium Tough.

In the championship round draft, Dustin Elliott selected Bushwacker (Julio Moreno/Richard Oliveira) with the seventh pick and then rode the top-ranked bull of 2011 for 6.6 seconds. It was the longest outing of the season on Bushwacker, who improved to 7-0 in 2011 and 18-0 in the past two years.

The BFTS will take a hiatus until late July, when it travels to Thackerville, Okla., for The WinStar World Casino Invitational on July 29-30. Tickets are available at www.WinStarWorldCasino.com or by telephone at (800) 622-6317. Bull riding will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 29, and Saturday, July 30. The event will be held in an outdoor facility, adjacent to The WinStar World Casino.

The action from Pueblo will be televised in HD on VERSUS at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday. Play-by-play broadcaster Craig Hummer will be joined by nine-time World Champion and PBR co-founder Ty Murray, who will provide color commentary, and Erin Coscarelli, who will be doing dirt-level interviews. Built Ford Tough Series telecasts are produced for the PBR by David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 30-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer and creative lead.

Pueblo was the 19th of 29 stops on the 2011 BFTS schedule, which began at world-famous Madison Square Garden on Jan. 7-9. The season concludes Oct. 26-30 in Las Vegas with the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, and the crowning of the 2011 PBR World Champion. The World Finals are the richest bull riding event on the planet with the winner receiving the PBR World Championship Buckle and a $1 million bonus.
