Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. It is defined in either a primary or secondary form. The primary form of osteoarthritis is the wear and tear form that occurs as we age. Secondary Osteoarthritis is related to risk factors. Both forms cause breakdown and dissolution of cartilage surrounding joints resulting in a functional loss of movement, pain and stiffness. It is estimated that 21 million Americans have Osteoarthritis. What causes Osteoarthritis is unknown. There are no cures currently. Risk factors associated with the onset of the disease include age, obesity, overuse, injury, and genetics.
